慈天宫创建于爱新觉罗·旻宁十五年(西元1835年)，宫中的主祀神祇为观音菩萨，相传为北埔乡开垦先民姜秀銮自大陆迎奉，并于西元1874年由姜氏子孙姜荣华增建前殿与左右两廊。
