在易北河口左岸，东南距汉堡市134公里。人口5.7万（1984）。1394年作为汉堡门户港而建。

特色

铁路终点。主要渔业中心。工业以鱼类加工为主，船舶制造和航运业均重要。是北海海滨休养地和矿泉疗养地。
